The Hudson restaurant is located about a mile from downtown Sedona (a less than 5 minute drive). If you’re staying at the Inn Above Oak Creek, Creekside Inn Sedona, or the Arabella Hotel Sedona, The Hudson will be your closest restaurant.
When it comes to atmosphere, The Hudson has this nailed down. There’s a modern southwestern feel to the dining room, with cozy half circle booths, sleek black walls with poppy art, and a welcoming patio with those famous red rock views!
Pro Tip: Sedona is just 30 miles from Jerome, Arizona’s wine tasting rooms, so if you find yourself in one of these cute small towns, be sure to squeeze in a trip to the other!
The Hudson describes their menu as “chef-driven menu with seasonal American fare and comfort food”. This Sedona restaurant features a big menu with lots of options. The appetizer selection is robust with items like sliders, calamari, ahi poke, chicken wings and meatballs with garlic bread.
Vegetarian diners will be pleased to find items like: Grilled Portobello Mushroom Sandwich, Butternut Squash Ravioli, and lots of salad and appetizer options.
And, if you’re looking for a super hearty meal, try one of the many cuts of steaks, the Baked Stuffed Shrimp, or Braised Pork Tacos.
Many Hudson restaurant reviews mention these menu highlights:
Bruschetta – there are so many bruschetta options. Try the Street Corn, Mozzarella, Smoked Salmon, or Brie & Apple.
Chef Jeff’s Corn Chowder with fire roasted peppers.
Chicken Pot Pie with rotisserie chicken, carrots, onions, celery, peas, and potatoes.
Butternut Squash Ravioli served with vegetables, garlic cream sauce, pecans, and crispy sage.
Bison Burger made with a juicy ground bison patty, and topped with BBQ sauce, crispy onions, jalapeno bacon, shredded lettuce, pepper jack cheese, and garlic aioli on a brioche bun.
Whipped Feta with Toasted Bread, an appetizer topped with roasted pistachios, Aleppo flakes, and honey drizzle.
Ahi Tuna Sandwich, a modern classic of seared Ahi tuna, Asian slaw, tomato, smashed avocado, sriracha ginger mayonnaise on a brioche bun.
The Bruschetta pops up so many reviews of The Hudson, so we had to try that, and we have to say it was pretty good.
Our overall impression of The Hudson struck the same note as most of the restaurants in Sedona that we tried. The food was decent, the service was okay, but it’s the views that people keep coming for, not necessarily the restaurant experience.
We understand why it’s such a popular restaurant in Sedona, but we think most of those accolades from the world class views and the ambiance of spots like The Hudson.
The wine list at The Hudson is pretty limited, especially when you factor in that the restaurant considers its food chef-driven. You will find big-name mega brands like Caymus, Whispering Angel, Duckhorn, and Sonoma Cutrer. There’s just one wine from Arizona, Los Milics from Sonoita, Arizona, which is a shame because Jerome wine country is just a stone’s throw away.
To sum up the wine situation here, when you factor in that Arizona does not allow corkage, your choices are pretty limited. It might be best to go with a cocktail or a beer.
The bottom line, The Hudson is a nice restaurant with friendly staff and decent food. While the food kind of falls around ‘okay’, the views are spectacular and the ambiance is excellent. Stop by and let us know what you think.
