The best Las Vegas restaurants aren’t always located on the Las Vegas strip. Since moving to Vegas, we’ve discovered so many hidden gems nestled in the surrounding neighborhoods that the locals call home. One of our most recent finds, Bluebei Sushi & Grill, is one such discovery. This off-strip Las Vegas restaurant wow-ed us with five star service, fresh sushi, and its sophisticated ambiance.

Location & Ambiance

Bluebei Sushi and Grill is located in Las Vegas’ Mountain’s Edge Marketplace, next to the Mountain’s Edge community. When you walk through the doors of this Las Vegas sushi restaurant, you’re immediately struck by its sleek and sophisticated ambiance. The contemporary decor is adorned with subtle nods to Japanese culture, and creates an inviting atmosphere that allows guests to relax in understated elegance.

Many sushi lovers fall into one of two categories: those who like to eat at the sushi bar where they can watch the chefs slice and dice fresh fish, and those that like to dine in the main dining area. Regardless of the camp you fall into, you’re guaranteed to be satisfied by your seating options at this Las Vegas restaurant.

The Bluebei Sushi Menu

Bluebei Sushi is open for lunch, dinner, and happy hour. Lunch specials include Bento Boxes, Japanese Teriyaki, Pork Belly, and Katsu Bowls, as well as sushi and sashimi lunch specials. Lunch options aside, the menu here is expansive.

Naturally, you will find classic sushi rolls like the Philadelphia, Spider, Rainbow, and Dragon rolls. Bluebei also serves fun signatures, including Arizona (spicy crab, cucumber, salmon, jalapeno, and spicy mayo), the Jackpot (crab, cucumber, avocado, and spicy poke), and the White Tiger, which is made with tempura shrimp, crab, cucumber, yellowtail, and yuzu.

There’s also a nice selection of small plates with items like traditional edamame, fried tofu, miso black cod, and vegetable tempura, but also non-traditional dishes (at least for a sushi restaurant) like crispy Brussels sprouts with parmesan and chicken wings.

What we ordered & our experience

As we were pulling together our review of Bluebei Sushi & Grill, the thing that stood out to us was the service. We ended up ordering a few of our favorites: Yellowtail Yuzu, Salmon Carpaccio, and Toro (fatty tuna). We also tried Wagyu sushi for the first time, and wow.

But, what really made our experience was the service. Our server, Olivia, was pleasant and informative and delivered incredible service throughout the meal. The food was good, but she truly brought things to new heights. From recommendations on menu selections to accommodating special dietary requests, every detail was handled with grace and professionalism, ensuring a truly memorable dining experience.

Sushi wine pairings can be a little tricky. If we’re not drinking sake, we usually gravitate to a Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay. This evening, we ended up pairing our meal with a bottle of Matthiasson Chardonnay. If you haven’t checked out our review of the Matthiasson tasting room in Napa, it’s worth a look.

Corkage

The corkage fee at Bluebei is a very reasonable $25 per bottle.  The restaurant has a full liquor license, so you can either bring your own bottle or order sake, cocktails, wine, or beer from the list.

Tips

  • Parking at Bluebei Sushi is easy. The lot has tons of spots, so you never need to worry about finding parking prior to your lunch or dinner reservation.
  • If you’re looking for a Las Vegas happy hour spot, consider Bluebei. The happy hour menu is offered every day from 3:30pm to 9pm.
  • Save room for dessert, because the Strawberry and Chocolate Mochi and Vanilla Ice Cream and Matcha Creme Brulee we had were excellent.

Closing thoughts

Our experience at Bluebei Sushi & Grill was excellent. We would highly recommend this Las Vegas sushi restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal with great service. We especially want to encourage this spot to fellow locals in the area who are looking for a casual spot for some stellar sushi.
