Full disclosure, we have been to Eddie V’s in the GasLamp Quarter in Downtown San Diego, and it doesn’t hold a candle to this one. The Austin location is the original and it has a great ambiance to it. A classic formal dining room and a jumping bar with a live blues/jazz band create the perfect vibe for a romantic date night or an evening with friends.
There are two Eddie V’s restaurants in Austin, Texas, but the original is located on 5th St. If you want to see where the magic started, visit this location.
It’s no secret that Eddie V’s is known for its incredible seafood. If you dine here, and you love seafood, you’re going to be in food heaven. The menu features an awesome selection of oysters (six kinds, to be exact), a massive seafood tower elegantly prepared with shrimp, oysters, lump crab, and lobster, fresh sashimi, lobster tacos, buttery Chilean Sea Bass, Seared Ahi Tuna.
But this Austin restaurant has more than just destination-worthy seafood; you can also enjoy steaks that rival those found at Mastro’s, Ruth Chris, and Morton’s. Eddie V’s just might be the best place to do surf and turf in the whole city.
Eddie V’s wine list is filled with familiar favorites. We found a bottle of 2020 Chateau La Nerthe CDP, and it was outstanding with our meal. If you don’t want to go the French route, you will also find wines from Far Niente, Caymus, Frank Family, Frog’s Leap, Paul Hobbs, and Ramey. We definitely saw a nice selection from a few wineries in Napa we recently visited.
If you’ve been reading the blog for a while now, you know we love eating at the bar, and our experience at Eddie V’s in Austin was no exception. In the hands of a good bartender, like Elliot Cerda, who served us on our visit, you can’t go wrong.
After a day of wine tasting, we enjoyed the Filet and Crab Legs with the Twice Baked Potatoes. For dessert we could not pass on the Bananas Foster. Check out the video!
Everything we had was excellent. From the service to the friendly staff, and the food, this was a five-star experience.
