While some products may require you to sacrifice the elegance of traditional stemware for functionality, VoChill offers the best of both worlds. With its sleek and sophisticated design, VoChill not only preserves the aesthetic appeal of your wine experience but also ensures that even on the hottest summer days, your glass of wine remains perfectly chilled.
Randall and Lisa Pawlik created VoChill to solve a simple but persistent problem: they wanted to keep their wine at serving temperature on hot afternoon days – we’re talking Texas level hot, but they didn’t want to sacrifice the refined look of the wine glass with a product that looked it belonged on spring break, or on a casual camping trip.
They also weren’t fans of placing chilled wine “wands” in their glass of wine either.
In their words, they “…envisioned a product that would accentuate the wine glass without altering the beauty of the wine itself. VoChill’s mission is to promote relaxation, slowing down, enjoying the moment, and simple luxuries.”.
The answer to their problem was VoChill.
To understand why controlling your wine’s temperature is important, let’s start with the basics.
The ideal temperature for red wine falls anywhere between 54 to 65 degrees F. And according to Decanter, those temperatures can be broken down even further when you begin to differentiate wine temperatures based on how light or full-bodied a wine is. Lighter red wines are best served between 54 to 56 degrees F, and full-bodied red is served between 61 to 65 degrees F.
For your white and rosé wine, you’re looking at a range of 45 to 50 degrees F.
Why does temperature matter? Well, if you serve a red wine warmer than the recommended temperature, you risk destroying the wine’s tannic and acidic structure. Critics often describe the resulting wine as “soupy”.
Similarly, if you serve your white wine too cold, you can mask potential flaws in the wine and miss out on the juicy acidity and the wine’s complex nose. In other words, when enjoying wine, temperature matters.
According to the VoChill website, the chill cradle of the product is “filled with a thermal fluid that is optimized for a long-lasting chill.” This kind of product design serves a few purposes, but let’s start with why it’s necessary to have this protective layer around your favorite glass of vino.
Protecting your wine from heat sources
Holding a wine glass with your hand naturally transfers heat from your body to the wine because glass offers only the thinnest barrier between that heat source (AKA your hand) and your wine. The VoChill Stemmed Wine Chiller also controls the temperature of the wine in warm weather conditions that can quickly take a glass of chilled wine from the perfect temperature to warm to lukewarm.
Freezing to bring wine from room temperature to chilled
Raise your hand if you’ve been in this situation: you’re entertaining friends, and you forget to chill that bottle of wine you intended to serve. It’s happened to the best of us!
One of the coolest features of the VoChill wine cooler is its ability to take a glass of room-temperature wine and bring it to an ideal serving temperature. VoChill allows you to do this by placing the chill cradle in the freezer, which freezes the device’s thermal fluid liner, thus allowing you to quickly change the temperature of the wine in a standard piece of stemware.
It’s also worth mentioning that the cradle design captures beads of condensation from the glass that would otherwise trickle on your fingers, creating an unwanted mess.
VoChill’s Stemmed Wine Chiller will chill a glass of wine for about an hour and a half indoors or for 45 minutes outdoors in a shaded area. If you’re entertaining for an extended period of time, the company recommends having an extra chill cradle available for guests who may be sipping for more than an hour.
There are a number of wine chillers and wine-chilling devices on the market, and some work better than others. After trying VoChill at home with a bottle of white wine, we found the company’s Stemmed Wine Chiller to be an efficient, stylish way to keep our wine at the perfect sippable temperature.
The Stemmed Wine Chiller is $49.95
The Stemless Wine Chiller is $44.95
