Rooms are well appointed, but a little dated. Great location. Fantastic restaurant on site.
The rooms could use a bit of an update, the patio’s on the rooms need to be maintained a bit better.
Immerse yourself in history and charm at Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm. This Albuquerque property, whose history dates back to the 14th century, offers a captivating blend of comfortable farmhouse-inspired accommodations and a connection to the region’s agricultural heritage. Unwind in a charming room that reflects the property’s past, savor exquisite Rio Grande cuisine at the on-site Campo restaurant, and explore the sprawling lavender fields and organic farm. Los Poblanos promises an unforgettable escape brimming with New Mexican character.
You can tell by this hotel’s name that it has a storied past steeped in New Mexico history. In fact, the Los Poblanos Historic Inn can trace its history back to the 14th century when the Ancestral Pueblo Indians inhabited the land. The name itself reflects the influence of early settlers from Puebla, Mexico.
The land changed hands many times over the centuries, but it was the Simms family in the 1930s who set the foundation for what the property is today. They transformed Los Poblanos into a dynamic property that included a residence, a working dairy farm, various agricultural endeavors, and a renowned cultural center called the La Quinta Cultural Center (more on that below).
Imagine a tranquil escape amidst 25 acres of lavender fields, gardens, and organic farmland. That’s the magic of Los Poblanos Historic Inn. While it’s conveniently located just 4 miles from Albuquerque’s historic Old Town, the inn itself feels worlds away. Nestled beside the Rio Grande River, the property offers a charmingly secluded atmosphere brimming with New Mexico’s rich history and agricultural heritage.
The rooms at Los Poblanos Historic Inn have a nice, rustic farmhouse feel to them. While the rooms are on the small side, they do have a little sitting area, a quaint desk, and flowy drapes on the windows. Our room had a cozy fireplace (again, on the small size, like, micro-sized small, but just enough to add to the ambiance should you want a little fire going at the end of your day).
Rooms also feature kitchenettes with mini fridges, coffee machines, and a “gin n’ tonic” station (Los Poblanos makes its own artisan gin!), so you can make a G+T if your palate needs a break from wine.
As far as the historic theme goes, the rooms mirror that vibe perfectly. When it comes to character, these rooms remind us a bit of one of our favorite Valle de Guadalupe hotels.
When you stay at Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Gardens, you can choose from three styles of rooms.
All of these rooms are slightly different, but in a nod to New Mexico’s famous architect, John Gaw Meem, they all feature: wood beam ceilings, wood burning fireplaces, ironwork, and hardwood floors, which were prominent stylistic components of his buildings.
Farms suites are similar to Meme rooms, but also include a view of the lotus pond, gardens, or acequias. This is the style of room we review below.
The coolest feature of the Field rooms is the semi-private patio. If a guest is sensitive to smoke from fireplaces, the hotel recommends this type of accommodation.
The Farm Shop is a coffee shop / provisions store that’s on-site. Here you can grab a speciality coffee drink or pastry before heading out on your day. You can also pick up gifts for friends (or yourself!). The farm’s lavender is used to make tons of different items like lotions, oils, soaps, bath salts, and more.
Looking for an edible gift? Pick up items like house made salumi, cheeses, or crackers. There’s also a bakery where you can buy fresh bread.
When you stay at Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm, taking a stroll through the La Quinta Cultural Center is a must. Stepping into this building is like stepping into a piece of history. From the large ballroom to the hand-carved ceilings, and gorgeous Spanish tile, everything about this John Meem designed space is stunning.
There is a lot to love about this Albuquerque hotel, which is in a great location, by the way. While the rooms could use an update, they are well appointed and embody the spirit of the property.
Overall, we were very happy with our experience at Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm. The property offers a surreal and unforgettable experience; the grounds are stunning, the farm is charming, and the restaurant is excellent. They also make their own gin, which has a unique flavor profile with desert themed botanicals. Very cool.
The only comment we would make is that the patios could be better maintained, especially because we imagine so many guests want to enjoy the beautiful New Mexico weather.
Try the hotel’s on-site restaurant, Campo. Our dining experience at Campo was excellent, and the food is regionally unique.
Loaner bikes are available to take a spin around the grounds, or explore the neighborhood.
Take a dip in the outdoor saltwater pool for a relaxing afternoon.
We highly recommend you consider Los Poblanos hotel for your stay in Albuquerque. The staff is incredibly friendly, the property is beautiful, and your visit will truly be a unique experience.
