The Landsby, Solvang, CA

The hotel boasts a perfect location. It shares a courtyard with The Sanger Tasting room, (Shout out to the staff for taking care of us for a private event we had our first night in town). It is across the street from Succulent (you must go), and around the corner from Sear Steakhouse, one of Solvang’s better restaurants.

The Landsby Hotel in downtown Solvang is laidback California luxury at its finest. We stayed here for my 60th birthday party with a few close friends, and I have to say, the experience exceeded our expectations. The hotel’s location in the heart of downtown Solvang makes it the perfect place to start your daily activities, and an even better place to wind down at the end of your day.

When you combine the charming town of Solvang, and its proximity to local wineries, with all that The Landsby has to offer, you get one incredible vacation destination.

The Hotel

The Landsby Solvang is exactly what you’d expect of a boutique luxury hotel in California wine country; in our opinion, it’s the best hotel in downtown Solvang. And this is speaking from experience; over the years we’ve stayed at a number of Solvang hotels. The staff are friendly, the location is within walking distance of great restaurants, local Danish-style bakeries, wine tasting rooms, and unique gift shops. When tourists talk about the best hotels in Solvang, The Landsby is always at the top of the list.

If your visit to Solvang includes visiting a few Santa Ynez Valley wineries, your stay at The Landsby includes access to a local wine guide and complimentary 2-for-1 tastings at select vineyards. The staff at the hotel really do go above and beyond to help their guests get the most out of their visit.

It’s also worth mentioning that The Landsby is a pet-friendly Solvang hotel, but they do have weight restrictions. Guests can bring one dog that weighs no more than 50 pounds, or two small dogs that have a combined weight of up to 50 pounds.

The Landsby Hotel Restaurant & Bar

Staying at the Landsby gives you access to Mad & Vin, the hotel’s wine country-inspired restaurant. The dinner menu has dishes like Braised Beef Short Rib with Whipped Potatoes and Flat Iron Steak with Duck Fat Fries, and brunch items like Brioche French Toast and Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwiches.

While we only had breakfast at the restaurant, based on the service and the quality of the food, we can recommend it.

No Solvang luxury hotel would be complete without a great hotel bar for pre-dinner cocktails or for a nightcap after a day of wine tasting. Craft cocktails, local wines, and The Landsby’s happy hour, which, by the way, is daily from 3pm-5pm, just add to the hotel’s appeal.

The Landsby Rooms & Suites

We love when a hotel’s rooms are all a little different, and each has their own personality. The design and decor of the guest rooms is a perfect blend of Scandinavian farmhouse and cool coastal California, and it doesn’t seem as if any two rooms are the same. We were lucky enough to stay in The Tower Suite, and we couldn’t have been happier.

The Tower Suite was everything you could want in a luxury hotel room. The suite itself was two-stories and featured a fireplace, sitting room, wet bar, and huge jacuzzi tub. The room felt less hotel-like and more like you were staying in a large guest house, in other words, it was comfortable, welcoming, and contemporary.

Here is a quick tour of the Landsby Hotel’s Tower Suite. (With commentary, of course.)

In Conclusion

As we mentioned early, The Landbsy boasts the perfect location. It shares a courtyard with The Sanger Tasting room, (shout out to the staff for taking care of us for a private event we had our first night in town). It is across the street from Succulent Cafe, an amazing restaurant that serves American comfort food (you must go!), and around the corner from Sear Steakhouse, one of Solvang’s better restaurants.

The hotel is also two blocks from Coast Range restaurant, a brand new restaurant with a killer menu. If you’re a fan of the movie Sideways, Solvang Restaurant, which appears in the movie, is just a five-minute walk from the hotel.

When you return to the hotel after dinner, head to one of the many fire pits around the property and sit back and relax with a nice glass of vino. The fire pits in the courtyard are a particularly nice draw.

The hotel’s wine list is almost entirely made up of local producers from the Santa Maria Valley, Santa Rita Hills, and Santa Barbara County, so even if you don’t make it to the wineries, you can still experience some great Central Coast wines.
