Las Vegas is known for its extravagant dining scene, but few places capture the magic of the French and Italian Riviera quite like Rivea. Perched high above the Strip, the restaurant offers sweeping views, refined yet approachable cuisine, and an atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve been transported to a luxurious Mediterranean getaway.
Owned by culinary icon Alain Ducasse, Rivea delivers an unforgettable experience, blending fresh, seasonal ingredients with the sophisticated techniques that have earned Ducasse global acclaim. With Executive Chef Winnie Wong at the helm, every dish is a testament to precision and artistry.
From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for something special. The warm, attentive service, the jaw-dropping view, and the perfectly curated wine list set the stage for an extraordinary evening.
Few names in the culinary world carry as much weight as Alain Ducasse. With a career spanning decades and multiple continents, Ducasse has cemented himself as one of the greatest chefs of our time.
Ducasse’s rise to fame began in 1986 when he took over the kitchen at the Hôtel de Paris in Monte Carlo, overseeing Le Louis XV, which quickly became one of the most prestigious restaurants in the world. In 1996, he opened the eponymous Alain Ducasse restaurant in Paris, which earned three Michelin stars within just eight months.
His influence extended to the United States in 2000 with the opening of Alain Ducasse at the Essex House in New York, making him the first chef to hold three Michelin stars in three different cities simultaneously. After closing the New York location, he turned his focus to Las Vegas, where he opened Mix, later transforming it into Rivea.
Ducasse’s career is lined with accolades. He has held an astonishing 21 Michelin stars throughout his career and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement honor by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. His influence extends beyond the kitchen—he has been a guest on MasterChef and was named one of the 100 Most Powerful People in Global Hospitality by the International Hospitality Institute.
Winnie Wong is no stranger to high-level cuisine. With an impressive culinary background, she brings a unique touch to Rivea’s menu, blending Ducasse’s signature style with her own innovative approach.
A rising star in the culinary world, Wong has worked in some of the finest kitchens, refining her craft with an emphasis on precision and technique. Her dedication to fresh, high-quality ingredients shines in every dish at Rivea, ensuring that each plate is both visually stunning and deeply flavorful.
The service at Rivea was nothing short of exceptional. Our waiter, Adam, was knowledgeable and attentive, guiding us through the menu with enthusiasm and expertise.
But the true star of the evening was sommelier Pietro Curcio. His deep knowledge of wine, combined with a warm and engaging personality, made the dining experience truly special. Every pairing he selected elevated our meal, balancing flavors beautifully. If you have the chance to dine at Rivea, do yourself a favor and let Pietro curate your wine experience—you won’t regret it.
Rivea’s wine list, curated by Master Sommelier Douglas Kim, is extensive, featuring over 1,050 labels from a 4,100-bottle cellar. The list highlights French and Italian selections, with a strong focus on Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhône, Champagne, and the best of Italy.
Notable producers include Nicolas Feuillatte, Domaines des Comtes Lafon, and Bruno Giacosa, along with an excellent selection of California wines, such as Kosta Browne and Raen. The sweet wine selection is also impressive, with vintage Ports dating back to the early 1900s and Madeiras from as far back as 1832.
Stepping into Rivea feels like entering a glamorous rooftop restaurant on the Mediterranean coast. The space is sleek and modern, with soft lighting that enhances the panoramic views of the Las Vegas skyline. The atmosphere is intimate but lively, making it perfect for both special occasions and relaxed, sophisticated dining.
We opted for the Truffle Tasting Menu ($195 per person) with the Wine Pairing ($195 per person), and every course was a showstopper.
A refreshing start with heirloom beets, petite lettuce, and a Banyuls-Truffle vinaigrette. The lobster was tender and sweet, and the truffle vinaigrette added a luxurious depth.
Paired with: Château Guiraud, G de Guiraud, Bordeaux, France, 2018
A delightful blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, with crisp acidity and subtle floral notes.
Rich, creamy, and absolutely decadent. The aromatic black truffles added an earthy complexity that was perfectly complemented by the velvety texture of the risotto.
Paired with: Jermann Vintage Tunina 2014
A fantastic blend of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, and Malvasia—elegant and balanced.
Seared to perfection, served with tri-colored cauliflower and Minus 8 truffle jus. The dish was delicate but packed with umami.
Paired with: 2020 Merry Edwards Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
A fruit-forward wine with vibrant acidity that played beautifully with the scallops and truffle sauce.
A masterpiece of Angus filet mignon, duck foie gras, and black truffle sauce. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the foie gras added a buttery richness.
Paired with: Margaux du Château Margaux 2015 – A stunning Bordeaux with notes of blackcurrant and cedar and 2019 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – A bold and structured wine with dark fruit and oak spice.
A show-stopping dessert featuring dark chocolate ganache, chocolate sable, black truffle crème anglaise, and chocolate sponge. The gluten-free soufflé was made specially for Tina, and it was absolutely divine.
Paired with: Fonseca – Vintage Porto 2003
A rich and luscious Port with deep berry notes and a velvety finish.
Rivea allows one bottle per table with a $50 corkage fee. Given the excellence of their wine program, we recommend exploring their selections, but if you have a special bottle, it’s worth bringing.
Rivea is a true gem in Las Vegas, offering an exquisite blend of French and Italian Riviera cuisine in a setting that is both elegant and inviting. Chef Winnie Wong’s execution is flawless, the wine list is world-class, and the service is exceptional—especially with sommelier Pietro Curcio at the helm.
From the truffle tasting menu to the custom gluten-free soufflé, every detail was thoughtfully curated. Yes, it’s a splurge, but if you’re looking for a memorable fine-dining experience in Las Vegas, Rivea should be at the top of your list.
