If the idea of high desert wines and a winery with a Spanish soul intrigues you, you’re going to love Albuquerque’s Casa Rondeña Winery. While there are over 60 wineries in New Mexico, Casa Rondeña distinguishes itself with a selection of wines that is influenced by both French and Spanish winemaking and a breathtaking atmosphere. Boasting one of the best tasting room patios in Albuquerque, the winery offers stunning views, gorgeous architecture, and an atmosphere that is relaxing and inviting.
Our expectations were high, considering Casa Rondeña is consistently ranked among the best wineries in New Mexico, and we were eager to experience the offerings. Keep reading to see why we think you will love this Albuquerque wine-tasting room.
Winemaker John Calvin created Casa Rondeña Winery all the way back in 1995 when the New Mexico wine community was just starting to take shape. His plan to open a winery in Albuquerque had been several years in the making. The winery site was selected in the late 1980s, and the first vines were planted in 1990.
New Mexico’s grape-growing climate is described as a “high climate desert,” and John went to great lengths to familiarize himself with the growing conditions here and experiment with a variety of plantings to see which grapes would do best.

Casa Rondeña Winery sits on a beautiful property. The location is just 5 minutes from Los Poblanos Hotel (where we stayed on our trip to New Mexico wine country). While the winery itself is kind of snugly located by a development of track homes, once you enter through the Andalusian gates, and drive down the vine-lined driveway, you will feel like you are miles away, tucked in wine paradise.
You can sit outside on the patio and look out onto a serene pond with calming water structures and take in the views of the stunning New Mexico sunsets and Sandia Mountains.
Inside the tasting room is stunning too. There’s a distinct Spanish element to the design with a wood carved bar, wood beam ceilings, and high arches throughout.
Guests can choose from the White Wine Flight or the Red Wine Flight. If you’re visiting the winery with a friend or partner, we recommend you go with one of each. This allowed us to try all of the wines in this New Mexico winery’s portfolio. Tastings are $14 each.

2020 Casa Rondena Syrah – this was our favorite wine of the bunch.
All of the wines fell somewhere between 80 and 88 points. The Syrah was the highlight of the tasting. The rest of the wines were decent.
Casa Rondeña Winery has a great wine club. While the Wine Club includes three different membership tiers, the one that stood out to us was Club 1629. When you sign up for this, you get exclusive access to the winery’s Club 1629 building, which allows you to attend special events at the winery, discounts on renting the impressive 1629 Club building, Founders Garden, or Great Hall for special events, and exclusive use of the 1629 Club & Patio area with a table-side seasonal menu available.
For the cost of $91 a month, you receive a ton of benefits – and free tastings every time you visit!

While the wines were average to good, what really blew us away about Casa Rondeña Winery was the atmosphere. This is a great place to go for a casual wine tasting on a weekend or a day off. Everything here is so peaceful, and the patio vibe is just so relaxing.
