A Family Affair Rooted in Passion

At Portree Cellars, the focus is on quality and care, not just in the wine, but in every part of the winery experience. Janet Miertschin, co-owner and winemaker, has honed her skills to craft wines that capture the essence of the unique Texas terroir. Her hands-on approach and deep connection to the land and vines are apparent in every glass.

While many wineries rely on external consultants, Janet leads the winemaking process herself, ensuring that every bottle reflects her personal touch and dedication. Janet’s role as winemaker sets Portree Cellars apart from many other wineries in the region. Her ability to craft wines that not only express the terroir but also cater to the evolving tastes of wine lovers has earned her a loyal following, especially among those who appreciate a personal connection to the craft.

A Welcoming Atmosphere with Scenic Views

The Miertschins have created an inviting and relaxed atmosphere at Portree Cellars. Upon arrival, visitors are welcomed into the tasting room, where they can choose between indoor or outdoor seating. The outdoor area is particularly popular, offering scenic views of the rolling Texas hills that create a serene and calming backdrop to any wine tasting experience.

Unlike some wineries that require reservations, Portree Cellars is walk-in friendly, allowing guests to enjoy a casual yet refined tasting experience without the need to plan ahead. The combination of well-crafted wines and a peaceful, scenic environment makes Portree Cellars a destination that appeals to both casual wine drinkers and seasoned connoisseurs. Whether you’re relaxing on the outdoor patio, sipping a glass of wine as the sun sets over the hills, or enjoying a private chat with the owners, the experience is one of warmth and hospitality.

With a five-star rating, the Portree Cellars wine club allows members to enjoy early access to limited-production wines, invitations to special events, and discounts on tastings and purchases.
