Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa

Much closer to a glorified Courtyard Marriott. This hotel is missing the "Marriott" standard in so many ways, that all we can say is STAY AWAY.

If you are traveling to Napa, you have a lot of choices when it comes to where to stay.  We can help you narrow that list down a bit by crossing the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa off your list. We stayed here in July of 2022, and this hotel has clearly “re-opened” from Covid.

What Is a Marriott Hotel?

There is a great breakdown of the 30 Marriott brands over at The Prince Of Travel blog.  And the “Marriott” brand falls into their Classic Premium category.  But unfortunately, the  Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa does not fall into this category.  It is really just a glorified Courtyard Marriott and not a great one at that.  Two stories with a motel feel, and in a dingy part of Napa with a homeless encampment across from the hotel (tents and a Lazyboy!).

The Covid Excuse

Before we arrived, we booked a couples massage at the spa, but the spa was “closed.”  So for $300 each for a 90-minute massage, we were allowed to enter the spa and go straight to the massage rooms and then leave.  None of the amenities of the spa were available. Upon learning this, we canceled our massage but were charged a cancellation fee.  If all this had been explained before we arrived, then we never would have booked the massages.  Covid was blamed for the closure of the spa.

Additionally, the hotel is trying to cut down on waste by eliminating plastic water bottles.  They have installed water stations around the hotel, but there is NO communication around this.  So when you ask for bottles for your room, you are looked upon by the staff as if you just murdered someone.

But, when you order room service, the food is not plated but instead served in cardboard and plastic containers.  But what about the environment?  Covid is the answer.  We still can’t make the connection.

In Conclusion

Bottom line, the hotel needs a makeover and evidently much more time to restaff from Covid.  I would be more understanding, but this was the only hotel out of the six we stayed at on this trip that had any noticeable issues related to staffing. So for now… stay away, but we will check back in the next time we are in Napa and see if they have turned things around.
