Why We Selected This Hotel

Before we review La Bellasera Hotel & Suites, we just want to touch on why we reserved this hotel for our stay in Paso.

The photos and videos on the hotel’s website are enticing; they really draw you in. The lobby is beautiful, a bartender is handshaking a martini, a chef cooking with wine, and a cozy fireplace is crackling away. It looks like a pretty good place to spend a few nights in wine country.

When we booked, the rooms were $430 a night, which was a very good deal in Paso at the time of year we visited. For context, other luxury-tiered hotels book for $500 to $600+ per night.

When you factor in that most of your time is spent at wineries and restaurants, why would you pay more? Or so we thought.

The Atmosphere

The hotel lobby and rooms are tastefully decorated in soft, neutral colors, with stone accents, leather club chairs, and eye-catching light fixtures. The space has abundant natural light when you walk into the lobby, you feel pretty good about the atmosphere.

Similarly, the hotel rooms and suites look very comfortable. For our stay, we reserved a one-bedroom king Whirlpool suite. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked with towels. The quartz countertops and what looked like travertine tile in the bathroom were an elegant touch.

A spacious sitting area, complete with a massive Whirlpool path, coffee machine, and dresser, separated the bathroom from the king bed. The room was also clean and vacuumed.

Our Experience

Where do we begin with our experience at Paso Robles’ La Bellasera Hotel & Suites. We hate to leave reviews like this, but nearly everything about our stay was unpleasant. Checking in with Danielle may have been the only pleasant and professional part of the experience. From there, well. Just keep reading.

Our first morning in the hotel, we went down to the hotel’s restaurant, Enoteca, which opened at 8 a.m. We sat for a full 10 minutes before the waitress greeted us. We ordered our breakfast items, and when the waitress repeated the order, she left out a detail of “crispy bacon.” So we said yes, and crispy bacon, please. Her response? Well, you may not believe this, but she responded with, “I heard you.”

That was our first taste of unprofessionalism at La Bellasera.

From there, things went from bad to worse. Multiple reviews of this hotel mention troubles with the AC, so this seems to be an ongoing problem at La Bellasera and one the management should probably prioritize as Paso Robles experiences multiple 100+ degree days during the summer months and regularly hits 90 degrees in the fall.

For two days, we struggled with the room temperature. Despite it being March, the room was very warm. On the third day, on our way out for dinner, as we walked to the front desk, the man standing behind the desk (no name tag) gave us an uncomfortable, dead-eyed stare and no greeting at all.

I proceeded to ask if he could help us with the AC in our room, as it didn’t seem to be working, and if he would please have someone check the unit. The dead stare continued with no words at all. I asked him if everything was okay, and he very rudely said, “Yeah, why wouldn’t it be?”

The first words that came out of his mouth were literally, “Yeah, why wouldn’t it be?”. It was like he either didn’t understand the question or, frankly, didn’t care. I then asked if he would also provide a couple of towels and coffee, as our room had not been serviced. Without going into more detail here, he was rude, condescending, and very unprofessional.

Needless to say, there were several other very negative experiences that happened during our stay at La Bellasera, but continuing to add them here would create a very long and boring read. So we’ll leave it at that.

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of excellent luxury hotels in Paso Robles, but we simply cannot recommend La Bellasera as one of them. Yes, the rooms and lobby are nice, but in our opinion, the lower price per night is not worth the lack of professionalism and attendance of the staff.

The hotel bills itself as “Comfort and elegance in the heart of Central Coast Wine Country,” but this hotel is really a 4-star price, with 1-star quality and staff.
