Great wines often start with a great vision, and Irvine & Roberts Vineyards is no exception. The Irvine and Roberts families came together with a shared passion for Oregon’s unique terroir, setting their sights on the Rogue Valley AVA, a region known for its dynamic climate and diverse soils. While Southern Oregon doesn’t always get the same level of attention as its northern neighbor, the Willamette Valley, this vineyard proves that world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay can thrive here.
From the start, the Irvine & Roberts team focused on small-lot, high-quality production, letting the vineyard’s elevation and soil composition drive the style of their wines. Situated at 2,100 feet above sea level, the property benefits from warm days and cool nights, creating the perfect conditions for balanced acidity and complex flavors.
Over the years, Irvine & Roberts has earned a reputation for crafting refined, expressive wines, consistently earning high scores and critical acclaim. But beyond the accolades, the winery remains committed to sustainable farming and an approach that prioritizes both the land and the wine in the glass.
Every great bottle of wine has a story behind it, and Brian Gruber is the one writing that story at Irvine & Roberts. His journey to winemaking wasn’t exactly conventional—before diving into the wine world, he spent 11 years in the U.S. Air Force, studied public policy at Harvard, and worked in banking. But it was during that time that he realized his true passion lay in growing and crafting wine.
Brian sharpened his skills at renowned Oregon wineries like Quady North, Barrel 42, and Troon Vineyard, eventually founding Swallow Hill Vineyard in Ashland. With nearly 100 wines scoring 90+ points under his direction and several landing on Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast’s “Top 100 Wines” lists, he’s built a reputation as a master of precision and balance.
At Irvine & Roberts, Brian brings that expertise to life, focusing on wines that reflect both the land and the vintage. His approach blends meticulous vineyard management with a light touch in the cellar, allowing the wines to showcase the nuances of the Rogue Valley’s unique terroir.
If you’re looking for a winery with stunning scenic views, Irvine & Roberts has you covered. The tasting room sits atop rolling hills, offering panoramic views of the Rogue Valley and the surrounding Klamath Mountains. Whether you’re sitting indoors or outside on the terrace, you’ll get a front-row seat to some of the most beautiful vineyard landscapes in Oregon.
The architecture and design of the tasting room reflect the winery’s philosophy—elegant but approachable. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outdoors in, while warm wood accents and cozy seating create a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you could easily lose track of time, glass in hand, watching the sun set over the vineyards.
For those who love a more immersive experience, the vineyard itself is a fascinating place to explore. The elevation and varied soil types (including volcanic and marine sedimentary soils) contribute to the complexity of the wines, making a vineyard tour a great way to appreciate what’s in your glass even more.
Wine clubs can be hit or miss, but Irvine & Roberts has crafted a program that’s highly rated and well worth considering. With a 5-star rating, their wine club is designed for those who truly appreciate limited-production, high-quality wines.
Here’s what members can expect:
The beauty of this wine club is that it prioritizes quality over quantity. You won’t be getting mass-produced wines; instead, each shipment offers a carefully curated selection that represents the best of what the vineyard has to offer.
For those who visit often, the club perks (like complimentary tastings and invitations to special events) add a nice touch, making membership more than just about the wine—it’s about the experience.
Unlike some tasting rooms where you can just stroll in, reservations are required at Irvine & Roberts. While that might seem like a small inconvenience, it actually works in favor of the experience. Each tasting is personalized, allowing guests to take their time with each pour rather than feeling rushed.
Tastings range from $20 to $75, depending on the selection. Given the high quality and limited availability of these wines, the pricing is fair—especially when compared to similar boutique wineries in California and Oregon.
What you can expect from a tasting at Irvine & Roberts:
For those looking for a more in-depth experience, private tastings and vineyard tours can also be arranged in advance. These offer a deeper dive into the winemaking philosophy, vineyard practices, and the stories behind each wine.
Irvine & Roberts Vineyards isn’t just a place to taste wine—it’s a place to experience it. From the breathtaking views to the impeccably crafted wines, this boutique winery delivers an unforgettable visit.
With award-winning winemaker Brian Gruber at the helm, every bottle reflects a thoughtful balance of tradition and innovation. The highly rated wine club ensures that fans can continue enjoying these wines long after they’ve left the tasting room. And while a reservation is required, the personalized tasting experience makes it well worth the effort.
