The Robb Report – Wineries Make It Way Too Hard to Buy a Bottle of Wine—It Needs to Stop
I am not a fan of wineries that have an allocation system, and evidently, so are Mike DeSimone and Jeff Jenssen from the Robb Report’s Oeno Files. (Great newsletter, by the way.) From the article:
It seems that more and more wineries that sell directly to consumers are still using an old-school technique to move bottles, forcing potential clients to sign up to join a list and be informed when a new vintage is ready for shipment. On an almost daily basis we are amazed at how many wine brands, even brand-new ones, employ this archaic tactic. In an attempt to create an aura of scarcity or exclusivity, it may put off potential customers whohave heard about a wine and simply want to buy a bottle rather than be “alerted when new bottles are in stock” or “notified when club memberships are available.”
Food and Wine – Armenia Is Producing Some of the World’s Most Interesting Wines — If You Can Find Them
We would agree that they are some of the most interesting wines, but they are also very, very good. You can find them at Storica Wines. We have reviewed them over at Cork and Journey and are planning a blind tasting of the Armenian Areni grape next year. So, yes, we are fans as well. From the article:
When Armenia became part of the Soviet Union in 1922, winemaking shifted into collective farming, with grapes grown solely for brandy and dessert wine production. However, some older vineyards, often at high elevation, were left uncultivated — and therefore spared for new generations who would revive the industry decades later in the independent Republic of Armenia.
Key benefits of a Somm TV subscription:
Not a news story. But Vinography, A Wine Blog, is a very interesting wine blog started by founder and editor Alder Yarrow in 2004. But it also has a very cool section of images that are free to download for your desktop wallpaper.
WineBusiness – NASEM Report Affirms Benefits Of Moderate Drinking
And let’s end 2024 with some good news. A report was leaked today that will be the first of two reports that will inform the alcohol recommendations in the upcoming Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs).
According to a report from the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), there is “moderate certainty” that people who drink alcohol in moderation have lower all-cause mortality than those who don’t.
Cheers to that.
