StripSteak by Chef Michael Mina

StripSteak restaurants are a sleek, modern steakhouse concept by acclaimed Chef Michael Mina. If you’ve been following along with our food and wine adventures, then you know we’re big fans of his. If you ever find yourself at the St. Regis, Monarch Beach, his Bourbon Steak concept within the hotel is excellent.

But, back to the StripSteak concept. Chef Michael Mina currently has two locations for this wildly popular concept: one on the Vegas Strip, which we are reviewing in this post, and one on the island of Oahu in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Location & Atmosphere

StripSteak, Las Vegas, is located towards the beginning of the Sunset Strip in the Mandalay Bay Casino and Hotel. The atmosphere inside the steakhouse is sleek, modern, and chic. Comfortable booths line the dining room, and free-standing tables can be found in the center.

Guests of the hotel, or tourists just traveling through, can stop at the gorgeous bar for a cocktail between 4:30PM and 9:30PM during the week, or until 10PM on the weekend.

The Menu at StripSteak Vegas

The menu at StripSteak restaurant in Las Vegas revolves around premium aged beef and seafood. Chef Mina’s signature twist on this concept also includes light seafood additions like Hamachi Nori Tacos and Sashimi, in addition to classic “surf” accompaniments like a snazzy Seafood Tower with shrimp cocktail, oysters, Maine lobster, and scallops.

StripSteak Las Vegas - Japanese A5 WagyuOur Experience & What We Ordered at StripSteak Vegas

Sometimes, the little touches in a restaurant can make a huge difference in your evening, and at a Michael Mina restaurant, there is always a surprise lurking. Case in point: instead of serving rolls or bread to start your evening, they serve hot, crispy french fries!

The elegant caddy of fries includes three different types: one basil fry with ketchup, one sea salt fry with truffle, and one garlic fry with spicy ranch. Because who doesn’t love snacking on homemade fries while they sip their wine and settle in for the meal?

Hannah, our server, was excellent, and she started our evening at StripSteak by giving us the Crispy Rice with Tuna and Yellow Taki Taco. What a way to start the night. Check out the pictures of these delicious dishes.

There are a lot of good choices on the StripSteak Vegas menu, but we just had to go with the Japanese A5 Wagyu. Nothing beats a well-prepared cut of authentic A5 Wagyu. When it came to the side dishes, again, there were so many options that it was difficult to decide. In the end, we opted for the Roasted Mushrooms with Sake Garlic Butter and sauteed Spinach with Butter and Garlic.

What we ordered was absolutely tantalizing, but any of the side dishes would have worked with the steaks. Order what you’re in the mood for – you can’t go wrong with the quality and execution here.

Our wine pairing for the evening was a bottle of Overture from Opus One that we picked up on our last wine-tasting trip in Napa Valley. It was the perfect accompaniment to the steak.

And for dessert…

No fancy Las Vegas steakhouse experience would be complete without a show-stopping dessert, and the Dark Chocolate Molten Lava with 24 Karat Gold did not disappoint.

Wine List

The wine list at Mandalay Bay’s StripSteak leans traditional. For context, you will find five pages of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, five pages of California Cabernet (this is a steakhouse, after all), and three pages of Bordeaux.

Having said that, there are some interesting gems from lesser known regions. In fact, the wine list features a few Valle de Guadalupe wineries, and wines from Australia, Chile, Lebanon, and Argentina.

It’s worth mentioning that there is a 2x markup cost for wine, which is higher than most restaurants we visit. That could be because StripSteak is located in the Mandalay Bay Hotel, which is right on the Vegas Strip.

Corkage Policy at StripSteak

Curious about what the corkage policy is at Mandalay Bay’s StripSteak? Guests can bring a maximum of two bottles per reservation, and the corkage fee for each bottle is $50. The caveat here is that you may not bring in bottles that are on their wine list.

Tips

  • Given the markup on wine list bottles, we suggest you bring a bottle from your cellar. Even with the markup, it’s going to be a better value.
  • If you don’t have room for dessert but you want something sweet, try something from the Dessert Trolley menu. These Liquid Desserts, as the restaurant calls them, include Espresso Martinis and House-made Limoncello.
  • Be sure to book your reservation in advance if you plan on eating at StripSteak on the weekend. This restaurant can get packed!
