The Accommodations

One of the best things about staying in a luxury boutique hotel is that these hotels have personalities all their own, unlike some of the larger legacy luxury brands with a uniform brand look and feel, which minimizes a city’s character.

The decor at the Atticus Hotel is eclectic but sophisticated and inviting. Kudos to the hotel’s design team for creating an atmosphere that captures the rugged individual spirit of Oregon but with a luxurious twist. There are so many different fabrics, textures, and colors, from velvet sitting chairs and settees in jewel box colors to Native American-inspired rugs in the lobby to the gilded mirrors contrasted with live potted plants. Many of the furnishings are made locally, so just like the Oregon wine you will enjoy on your trip, the hotel has a real “sense of place” to it.

All in all, the Atticus Hotel has 36 rooms and suites, each of which has a distinct design. That means you could stay at the hotel dozens of times and have a new room experience with each stay – pretty cool.

We opted to stay in one of the Suites for our adventure in McMinnville, and we were not disappointed. The room was spacious, it included local Oregon teas and French press, a comfy Pendleton robe, and a free-standing tub.

It was a great place to unwind after sipping our way through downtown McMinnville.

The Perks

Exclusive Wine Partnerships

Most visitors make the trek to McMinnville to experience some of the best Oregon pinot noirs that Willamette Valley has to offer. If wine tasting is at the top of your itinerary, staying at the Atticus Hotel has some serious perks.

For starters, the hotel has partnerships with some of the most popular tasting rooms in downtown McMinnville, and there are over 18 unique establishments within walking distance of the Atticus. Simply show your hotel card and receive complimentary tastings, 2-for-1 tastings, and discounts on bottles.

Restaurants and Wine Tasting Rooms Near the Atticus
Everything is within walking distance.

Feel like getting out of town and exploring the area? You’re in luck. Over 250 wineries and tasting rooms are just 20 miles from the Atticus Hotel. The hotel concierge team can arrange wine-tasting reservations at exclusive wineries, guide you to some of the region’s hidden gems or create a completely customized, full-day itinerary based on the style of wine you like.

Nice Touches & Amenities

Little touches can add up in a big way during a hotel visit; those thoughtful gestures distinguish great hotels from good hotels.

Shortly after you enter the Atticus lobby, staff greet you with a glass of ‘welcome’ Champagne. In our experience, greeting hotel guests with a glass of bubbles strikes the perfect tone. But that’s not all. If you need a caffeine pick-me-up after an afternoon of wine tasting, the hotel has a coffee bar that will make you a cappuccino, a latte, an espresso – you name it, they’ll make it. Believe it or not, this perk is available 24/7!

The other thing we loved about the Atticus Hotel is the Dutch-style bikes. If you’re not in the mood to walk and you don’t feel like hopping in the car, grab one of these stylish bikes.

It’s also worth noting that if you’re traveling with a pet, the Atticus Hotel is the only pet-friendly luxury hotel in downtown McMinnville.

The Atticus Hotel Restaurant: Red Hills Kitchen

Red Hills Kitchen, the restaurant attached to the Atticus, is easily the best restaurant in downtown McMinnville. We enjoyed so many excellent meals there.

Red Hills Kitchen strives to “present delicious food and drink without attitude, in a manner of service with passion”. Trust us when we say they hit the nail on the head.

The restaurant’s menu was inspired by Chef Jody Kropf’s Red Hills Market, which is well-known in Willamette for its wood-fired, seasonal comfort foods. Think dishes like Honey Brulee Brie with Jacobsen honey, dried fruits, and fennel pollen crostini, Crispy Duck Wings tossed in chimichurri with cumin spiced yogurt, and Steak n’ JoJos, which is a 14-day dry-aged New York strip steak with crispy garlic herb JoJo potatoes, jasper ketchup, and jus.

We tried breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Red Hills Kitchen, and each experience was exceptional.

The restaurant also has a hybrid grab-n-go / provisions store if you want to grab a few snacks to take with you as you explore Willamette Valley or pick up a gift to take home. With options like Oregon cheese, wine, or other locally crafted delicacies, you can’t go wrong.
