Adelaida Vineyards and Winery was established in 1981, though the roots of its vineyards stretch much deeper into the history of the Paso Robles AVA. The estate encompasses 700 acres, including 157 acres under vine, situated in the mountainous terrain of the Santa Lucia Highlands. The winery’s name pays homage to the historic Adelaida District, a region steeped in the legacy of California’s winemaking past.
The vineyard sites benefit from limestone-rich soils and the cooling influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean, which create ideal conditions for producing wines with remarkable structure, balance, and complexity. These vineyards are planted to a diverse array of varietals, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Rhône blends, and heritage Zinfandel, with a particular emphasis on estate-grown fruit that reflects the singular characteristics of Paso Robles.
Jeremy Weintraub joined Adelaida Vineyards and Winery in 2012, bringing with him a deep well of experience and a clear vision. His guiding principle is straightforward yet profound: to craft wines that authentically reflect their origins. His approach focuses on creating wines that are intense, aromatic, and built to age, while remaining true to the land where the grapes are grown. For Weintraub, winemaking is about stewardship—identifying the best vineyard sites and cultivating them in ways that elevate the resulting wines.
Before his tenure at Adelaida, Weintraub served as winemaker at Seavey Vineyard in Napa Valley, where he achieved critical acclaim, including multiple 95+ point scores for his wines. His path to becoming a “winegrower”—a term he prefers for its emphasis on the symbiotic relationship between the land and the vine—was unconventional. He began his career as an economic and political writer in Washington, DC, before following his passion for wine into a new chapter.
Weintraub earned his Master’s in Viticulture and Enology from the University of California, Davis, as a recipient of the prestigious Wine Spectator scholarship. He honed his craft with hands-on experience working with noble grape varieties in diverse regions, including the East and West Coasts of the United States, Central Otago in New Zealand, and Tuscany’s renowned Antinori Tenuta Tignanello estate. These experiences have shaped his holistic approach to winemaking, blending traditional techniques with modern innovation.
